Drug Indication Intestinal amoebiasis, lambliasis and trichomoniasis; Prophylactic sterilization in gastro-intestinal surgery; Prophylactic treatment of coma hepaticum
Side Effects Minimal as aminosidine is practically not absorbed from the gut.
Dosage Adult: 1g daily. Children: 20-30mg/kg/day.Intestinal amoebiasis, lambliasis and trichomoniasis: Adult; 500mg/day for 6 days. Children; 15mg/kg/day for 6 days. Prophylactic sterilization in gastro-intestinal surgery: Adult; 2g daily for 3 days. Children; 50mg/kg/day for 3 days. Prophylactic treatment of coma hepaticum: Adult; 2g daily, Children; 50mg/kg/day. Dose may be increased depending on severity, duration of disease and physicians judgement.
Special Information It is also known as Paromomycin. It is an aminoglycoside broad spectrum antibiotic structurally related to neomycin. It is practically not absorbed from GIT hence cannot be used in extraintestinal amoebic infections.
