| Dosage | Adult: 1g daily. Children: 20-30mg/kg/day.Intestinal amoebiasis, lambliasis and trichomoniasis: Adult; 500mg/day for 6 days. Children; 15mg/kg/day for 6 days. Prophylactic sterilization in gastro-intestinal surgery: Adult; 2g daily for 3 days. Children; 50mg/kg/day for 3 days. Prophylactic treatment of coma hepaticum: Adult; 2g daily, Children; 50mg/kg/day. Dose may be increased depending on severity, duration of disease and physicians judgement. |
| Special Information | It is also known as Paromomycin. It is an aminoglycoside broad spectrum antibiotic structurally related to neomycin. It is practically not absorbed from GIT hence cannot be used in extraintestinal amoebic infections. |
